Pordenone, 23 may 2007 PRESS RELEASE
The seventh edition of the International Valcellina Award for Young Textile Artists has been launched.
The prestigious international textile art competition will take place in 2008 with the prized awards, exhibition, and a meeting on fiber art education.
The promoter is Le Arti Tessili Association of Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region which celebrates twenty years of activity in 2007.
The competition deadline is the 30th November 2007.
The sixth edition of the International Valcellina Award for Young Textile Artists has been launched. This competition is one of the most important events in Italy concerning fiber art. This particular branch of contemporary art has very ancient roots in the art of weaving and takes up modern forms through different techniques like intertwining, the use of different fibers, patchwork, ready-made objects, and everything that refers to “textile”.
Applications to the Valcellina Award come from all over the world. It is an event that has in the years acquired a place of absolute relevance in the international artistic panorama. It is promoted and organized by Le Arti Tessili Association, a prestigious cultural association situated in Friuli which celebrates its twenty years’ anniversary (1987-2007). Its target is that of promoting activities of textile art and culture as a means to enhance the knowledge of our domestic culture and exchange with foreign ones.
The area where the award takes place along with the related exhibitions and meetings is the western part of Friuli, i.e., that land called Valcellina with its beautiful landscapes and historical spas, surrounded by peaceful quiet and able to make us reconcile with the rest of the world. Great writers have written on it like Claudio Magris and Mauro Corona (writer, climber, and sculptor, one of the top writers with Mondadori), and theatre artists like Marco Paolini have presented it on the stage. The Valcellina Award, supported by the Region, Province and Maniago and Montereale town administrations becomes a good medium to promote the territory and invite competitors, the public or visitors to come to Valcellina on the occasion of the award presentation.
The competition is open to all the people born after 1st January 1972 and aims at spreading the knowledge and interest for the textile art among the young artists and encourage new talents. It is an extraordinary international launching platform where to express one’s artistic creativity.
The money prizes for the first three winners are also a good stimulus to participate.
For the purpose of celebrating the first ten years of the Award’s activity (1995-2005) and the first twenty years of Le Arti Tessili Association's activity, a special edition of the competition is called: a meeting on fiber art policies, techniques, strategies, and the pertaining didactics in European universities/academies will take place the day before the award inauguration and the prizing of the winners in order to focus on these problems which are often ignored by Italian art institutions.
