A first selection of the oeuvres took place on 15 January 2008 on the basis of the photographic documentation sent by 99 artists from 21 countries: Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA. 47 candidates were selected.

The jury met on 15 March 2008 and examined 44 works which arrived in due time. Sunna Kangas' work did not arrive in time for the jury, Sophie Della Rosa and Sanna Multisilta gave up participation.
Ulrike Berge's work was accepted outside competition since already exhibited.
